For the Paradise series, Riché documented the aftermath of the 2018 Camp Fire in California and worked with Maison Picturale to translate that material into handcrafted prints. The final works combine four-colour Aquaprint with ash resinotype, so that matter collected from the landscape becomes part of the photographic surface.
Studio Q&A
What makes the Paradise prints materially specific?
The final layers combine four-colour Aquaprint with an ash resinotype made from matter gathered on the Paradise fire sites. The pigment is part of the subject, not only a way to represent it.
Why does Maison Picturale matter in this series?
The studio translates the photographic research into a stable physical object: calibrated negatives, layered gum colour and a final resinotype surface that makes every print unique.
